User Licensing

Flex utilizes SharePoint’s User Groups for authentication. SharePoint authentication utilizes either Server Accounts or Active Directory using various authentication providers such as NTLM, Claims or Kerberos.

Flex has a user “filter” that comes into play when less than an Unlimited Users license is purchased. This filter is an Advanced Settings called, LicensedUsers”, where each named user is listed by their login name or ID. Any Flex user not on this list will not be allowed to access the site.

This does not apply with an Unlimited License when such a user listing is not required. However this communication occurs with the SharePoint authentication model and not directly with Active directory – the Flex user must be a SharePoint user first and foremost

Our License Management system requires a setting for Named Users for clients that purchase all packages other than the unlimited license. The license key provided will limit the maximum number of named users that can access Flex.

Add at least the Admin user to the Licensed Users setting BEFORE applying the final key.

Additional licenses can be purchased in 5-user packs, or you may upgrade to another multi-user pack. Contact your LookOut representative or contact sales@lookout-software.com.

Adding New Setting

From Advanced Flex Setting list click “Add new setting” located under Operations.

Setting Name: LicensedUsers (or LicencedUsers)
Setting Value: (Leave Blank – See Example)

After adding this Setting for the first time, close and re-open the LicensedUsers Setting and then add your Admin user in the Setting Value box using the “domain\loginuser” format.

It is assumed that the user account you are using to do this is “Admin” or has an equivalent Admin permission level.

Modify Existing Setting

If the setting is already present, modify the Setting Value as shown below.

Setting Name: LicensedUsers (or LicencedUsers)
Setting Value: List of User Names, or Group Name (each on a separate line)

Add all the required Flex users by row in the Setting Value box as shown, save your changes and Reset Application Cache.

Apply Permanent Flex License

  1. From the Advanced Flex Settings list >Top of the page go to “Add/Update”.

  2. Add the license key provided by LookOut Software, then click “OK”.

See License and Software Maintenance Agreement for details.
