PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE STARTING THE INSTALL PROCESS.
The following two requirements are necessary for the Flex install to work:
- Ensure the SharePoint 2010 Administration Service is running (by default it is not),
- Ensure the “stsadmin.exe and stsadm.cfg” files are either in the FlexInstall directory created to house the extracted Flex files provided or that “stsadm.exe” is in the system path. (The “Stsadm” files can be found in the “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN” folder.)
Site Preparation
- In SharePoint Central Administration create a New Web Application.
- Enter the necessary information as required – there is nothing Flex-specific at this point.
- After the web application has been created, you must create a Site Collection.
- There is also nothing Flex-specific that’s required at this point.
Installation Steps
Now that the Site Collection has been created follows these steps exactly:
- Unzip the install file provided into a folder called “FLEXInstall” on the SharePoint server.
- As Administrator run the “setup.bat” file.
- You will be prompted for the URL of the site collection you created. After specifying this, the procedure will add Flex web parts to the SharePoint Solution Store and then deploy the web parts to the Site Collection specified. In this example, the site collection URL would be as follows:
http://Serverdev:11000 — where “Server dev” is the name of the SharePoint Web Front End Server with the new Site Collection Port Number.
- This procedure may take some time and will continue after the setup.bat file has completed.
- To monitor the status, go to “Solution Management” within Central Administrator and view the deployment of the web parts.
- Refresh this page periodically (it will not refresh itself). When all Flex web parts are “deployed”, you may continue to the next step.
- Now open the site collection with a browser and go to the Site Actions menu and choose “New Site”:
- Create a New Site, choosing the “Blank Site” template.
**Make a note of the URL – it will be required next.
- Open “SharePoint 2010 Management Shell” from within the Server’s start menu.
- Navigate to the folder that you unzipped the installation files into using the “cd” command (see Microsoft’sPowerShell Reference for details).
- In the example, the files are in the C:\FLEXInstall folder: Make sure that the “Stsadm.exe” is available.
- When you are in the correct folder, enter the following line (followed by the Enter key):
Import-SPWeb –Identity [URL to site] –Path “$(gl)\Flex.cmp” –Verbose
- Notice the quotes around the “$(gl)\Flex.cmp” section. The [URL to the site] should be filled in with the actual URL to the subsite you created in step 6 – do not use “[ ]” in the actual statement. In our example, this would be http://Serverdev:11000/Flex and the command used would be (do not forget “Flex” if that is what you use as the sub-site name):
Import-SPWeb –Identity http://Server:11000/Flex -Path “$(gl)\Flex.cmp” –Verbose
You must specify the site URL correctly – this command will overwrite the specified site with Flex Site!
- After pressing enter, the site will be “restored” with a copy of Flex site.
- Launch it with a browser.
- Now you will need to enter your license key.
Notes:
- If the site does not appear, check the log file and forward to support@lookout-software.com.
- The Import will change the sub-site’s name to “Flex”. This can be changed in the Site Settings for the site. The URL portion will not be affected.
