Search Behavior

When a new item is created using the Wizard there are a variety of options based on the item which is being created and the expected behavior and relationship to the Parent, if one exists.

Let’s use some examples to explain.

Creating a New Interaction

An Interaction is a child item and cannot exist on its own so you must, therefore, search for a Parent item, such as a Contact, Account or Opportunity. This is the default method of related items in Flex and no setting is required to facilitate this response.

Creating a new standalone list for Contractors

In this case, when a new item is created you want to search the Contractors list for duplicates but not an Account. The search control required for this list would be “SearchForDuplicates”.

Creating a New Project which has been created as a custom standalone list

In this regard, the Project is not directly related to an Account but operates independently. In this case, you would select the Search Control called “DoNotSearch”. In this situation, the new form would automatically open for the user.

Creating a New Campaign

This is the same situation as a Standalone List in that you would not want to search for duplicates. Each New Campaign would have its own name and is not dependent on a parent item. In this situation, you would use the “DoNotSearch” option.

Use the following setting and syntax to control how your New Item Wizard behaves with parent items.

Setting Name: WizardListSearchOptions (previously WizardListSearchExceptions)
Setting Value: List Name|Search Control

Add the list name and then a bar as shown above and then the parameter that applies to the situation.

Note: This Setting is for overriding the basic instruction for new list items or existing behaviors that require changing to suit your specific situation. The default for all lists is “SearchForDuplicates” if there is no line item in the setting.

Search Behavior Values

DoNotSearch (use this for items that don’t have a parent)
SearchForParents (this is the normal operation but added for clarity)
SearchForDuplicates (for top-level lists, will search for duplicates first)
DoNotAllow (wizard will not run, message saying this is not allowed will be shown)
