Note: This setting has been deprecated as of September 2016. The “CreateNewAndSearchManager” Master setting will manage the processes carried out by the Connection Searching process.
This Setting manages the Connection search functionality. It controls which fields are searchable per list and which columns are displayed on the results pane based on a View.
The screen shot below displays the results of a connection search for contacts. With a Connected Contact search the setting is configured for using Full Name, Account, and Last Name (as shown below in the setting).

Setting Value: List Name|View Used for Display|Fields to be searchable
Sub-Grids configured for Connections can take advantage of an array of configurations that may be required to serve the purpose of the Connected data.
