SharePoint Flex is an On-Premises or Private Cloud application that can be set up as a sub-site within a Site Collection of a SharePoint Farm.

The Flex Lists, Web Parts, and overall Template construction communicates with SharePoint in the background via a Flex REST API. Flex makes no direct calls to the backend SQL Content Database for data or structure. Flex’s uniqueness lies in its built-in relationship model that establishes multiple Parent to Child relationships between its lists and uses custom Web Parts to create, modify and display list, items, features and functions.

Flex has an Advanced Settings list that controls many aspects of the system’s sophisticated and extensive configuration options.

This section includes an overview of various technical aspects related to SharePoint Flex, along with a variety of FAQs, installation instructions and other useful details.

  1. SharePoint Flex is a self-contained Application with a predefined set of Web Parts and Lists compatible with SharePoint Foundation, Standard, and Enterprise (2010, 2013 and 2016).
  2. Our Web Parts and Lists have relationships at the field level internal to the Flex framework.
  3. We distribute Flex in addition to its Web Parts in the form of a CMP file with a batch install. This makes it easy for a SharePoint Site Administrator to install the application as a subsite to a Top-Level SharePoint site.
  4. The creation of a blank or Team site normally requires a site collection with its database; however the client can choose to make our software a sub-site of a current Top Level site.
  5. As with any other SharePoint sites, all data is contained in either the localized Windows “SQL” OS database or housed in another SQL Server instance, location, or Farm.
  6. Our install procedure recommends the creation of a blank or Team Top level site. This is where the automated installer will then place all the necessary files in place including GAC and “common” directory placements.
