The Quick Launch is a SharePoint feature that Flex further expands upon by adding Recently Viewed items to the top portion of the column, and enabling List Views to be displayed, filtered and grouped.
The configurable components of the Quick Launch include these options:
- Recently Viewed Items
- Quick Launch Links and Groups
- Collapsing Quick Launch Sections
Configurations of the various components of the Quick Launch are explained in the next sections of this Guide. Use any or all of them in combination to suit your business preferences to create an extremely efficient and user-friendly navigation experience for your users.
Configuring Quick Launch
- To modify the Quick Launch locate this SharePoint feature as normal.
- In the Quick Launch Settings, add new navigation links, new headings or change the order as required.
Collapsing Quick Launch Headings
Decide which of your Quick Launch links will go under what headers and then make some or all of the sections expand or collapse by default.
In the screen above we have left only the “Quick Launch” section in an expanded (uncollapsed) state by default, while the Corporate Lists, Reports, Libraries, etc. sections appear in a collapsed state by default.
It’s easy to access the links contained inside the collapsed headers, just click on them to expand:
Note: This feature is controlled by two Advanced Settings.
Locate the “QuickLaunchPinHeaders” Setting from the Flex Advanced Settings list and set the Value to “True”. If the setting does not exist, add it.
A Setting Value of “False” is the default value which is the same as no Setting added, the Quick Launch will not collapse Headers.
Setting Name: QuickLaunchPinHeaders
Setting Value: True
Note: When a header is pinned the browser will remember the pinned/unpinned state (using a cookie) so that the setting selected would be the default until specifically changed.
To control which Headers appear in an expanded (unpinned) state use the following Setting.
Setting Name: QuickLaunchDefaultUnpinnedHeaders
Setting Value: [Heading name(s)] separated by line breaks
Using the Setting Value shown above would render the following result, with both the “Quick Launch” and “Reports” sections being expanded by default:
Note: The browser will remember the pinned/unpinned state of Quick Launch Headers by using a cookie. The setting above dictates the default behavior for the Quick Launch Headers, but if you unpin a section, it will stay unpinned until you pin it again, and vice versa.
After you have finished adding or modifying Advanced Settings, select “Reset Application Cache” for the changes to be applied.
