These instructions will apply for all List Types - Read Only, Lookup and Embedded Lists - as described in the previous sections. The SharePoint Designer step is only required for Embedded list creation.
- Create a New “Custom List” using the “Add an app” feature in SharePoint 2013 and select the list of your choice. [If you do not see this item you may not have the necessary permissions.]
Note: Custom List will be the most common choice but you can choose a list type of your choosing, including a Calendar type – depends on what you are trying to achieve.
- Give your New List a unique name and click “Create”.
DO NOT USE SPECIAL CHARACTERS IN YOUR LIST NAMES TO AVOID COMPATIBILITY ISSUES.
- The new list is now created and will require Flex relationship fields to be added if the list is to be used as an Embedded list. Select your new List, then click “List / List Settings”.
Note: The Title field (shown below) is a default SharePoint Column for each list. The name of the Title field can be changed to whatever makes the most sense to the list’s purpose. (For more details on the Title field refer to the Title Field section).
- Select “Create Column” and add the 4 relationship Flex columns shown below. Ensure you use the correct Type definitions shown.
- Remove the “Add to Default view” for these fields (see the bottom of the Column list page) as you do not want these internal fields showing on your list views.
- Now, create any other Field Columns you require for your new List. See the Create Columns section.
