The Cascading field feature enables a two-step field designation which can be used within every Flex list.
For this example we will use an Opportunity List item which requires a Status to be added. Each Status field (the Primary Choice Column) will have an associated Reason column (Display Single Line of Text Column). The Reasoncolumn will display the Cascade fields for every status.
Below see screen captures of the Opportunity Edit form showing the Status choices and their associated Reason fields.
Below is a screen shot showing the Cascade column fields. Notice they all begin with a lower case “c”. This is how you can tell they are Cascade fields.
Cascade fields with the little “c” at the front are not added to any forms.
The only fields added to the form are the Primary field (ie. Opportunity Status) and the Display field (ie. Reason).
See the screenshot below showing one of the Cascade fields. Notice they are Choice fields.
Configuring
Every Cascade field set will have it own Advanced Flex Setting. In this example, we are using Cascade fields for an Opportunity.
Note: There are three pieces to the setup of a Cascade field:
- The Primary Control Choice Field Name – Ex “Opportunity Status”.
- The Single Line of Text Column Field to display the Cascade selection – Ex “Reason”.
- The Cascade Choice Fields – Ex “cAbandoned”, “cLost”, “cWon”.
