Administrator Guide

Title Field

The Title field is a default SharePoint field for each list. The primary function of the Title field is to provide a hyperlink/edit/custom menu from within the List View.

In SharePoint, the Title field cannot be deleted. You can, however, change the name.

By default when you receive your software the Title field for an Opportunity item may be set to “Account” and you may prefer “Summary” or some other field name. Go to List Settings and locate the Title Field. Note the URL will always say Field=Title which is the inner name regardless of what the field name says. You can change the name here as shown in the screens below.

SharePoint Flex uses the Title field in a variety of ways depending on the purpose of the list. For example, the Title field in the Account list is “Account” but the title field in the Contact list is “Last Name”. However Flex users can change the Title field to a field of their choosing.

Title Field Menus

The Title field also contains a menu as shown below. The default Title column menu can be enhanced to take advantage of creating new items in Flex. See the CreateNewAndSearchManager setting for configuring this menu list.

Editing Child Item Title Columns

The Title field cannot be edited by default if it exists in a Child Item. If you wish to allow your users to edit the title field add the setting below. However, please be sure that the Title field is not being used to copy down an Account name that should not be edited at a child item.

Setting Name: EditFormProtectChildTitleColumnExceptions
Setting Value: List Name – each on its own row
