The purpose of this feature is to automate a business situation whereby a user selects one value from a choice field and pre-setup value(s) from another field are auto populated. This automation feature eliminates the problem of users not updating field values that are dependent on another value.
To explain, in the scenario below, the choice “Technical” was selected from the Contact Type field and the two items (“Newsletters” and “Product Info Updates” choices) were automatically checked from the field “Communications”.
Note: This automation takes place immediately without the form being saved.
Configuring
Note: The source column must be a single select choice column and the target column must be a multi select choice column (checkboxes).
- Create a single choice column to be used for the Source (in this example we are using the column name “Contact Type”). Add the appropriate choices. Ensure there is no default selection.
- Create a multi-choice column to be used for the Target (in this example we are using the column “Communications”). Add the appropriate selections.
- Add both column fields to the Contact list’s New Form, Edit Form, and Display Form.
- Add a new Setting to the Advanced Setting List called “ContactsDefaultValues“.
Setting Name: ContactsDefaultValues
Setting Value: : source choice column (dropdown list)|target multichoice column (checkboxes)|source value=list of values that will be checked
-
- Save the new Setting and Reset Application Cache.
Note: Although the examples above are based on a Contact list, this feature can be used on any Flex List.
