This handy Flex feature assists users in managing their relationships and also provides managers a quick method of seeing which items do not have a next step assigned.
Feature Explained
- When a Task is created for an item, the “Next Task Date” field gets updated all the way up the Parent chain. The code is smart enough to check the current date of parent items and only update it if the new task date is before an existing task.
- When a task is deleted, the code will update the item with the closest relevant next task date that is open (not completed).
- When a task is completed, the code will update to use the latest next task date of a related task that is still open.
- This Feature utilizes the column field called “Due Date” in the Task list. The inner name is “duedate”. If this column field name is deleted it will need to be added back as “duedate” and then the outer name can be changed. Currently it is called “Due Date” for English language Flex systems.
Configuring
This feature is set up for current Flex lists. If you add a new list to Flex follow these instructions.
- Add two new Column Fields into the new list (shown below). Ensure the correct types of fields are assigned.
- Add the “Next Task Date” column to the Display form for each list that has been configured. Since this is an automated field it is not necessary to add to the New/Edit forms. Search the “Display Form Editing” section of this Guide for information on editing Display pages.
- Add “Next Task Date” to the DisplayFormLinkExclusions Setting for your new list so users will not be able to edit this field from the Display form.
